follow that almost
inviting trail in the unknown
I stop and listen to the wind
blow softly through the
branches crying for the loss of their
leaves and know that soon they
will shiver from the cold.
A leaf finishing it's balancing
act lands at my feet and I hesitate
to step over it for fear of maybe,
just maybe, I might hear a scream.
No little leaf I will pick you up and
save you in the pages of my loved
book for me to admire and dream
of the season of life after an hibernation...
